Diabetes Hands Foundation (DHF) has been running two social networks: TuDiabetes.org ® (in English) and EsTuDiabetes.org (en español), since 2007. Both communities offer a culturally sensitive experience to their members (people with diabetes as well as their loved ones), helping them connect with others they can relate with.
Members our the social networks can message each other or participate in discussions with the rest of the community. They can share videos, photos and blog about their lives with diabetes. Members can start their own groups or join existing interest groups. As of May 2010, TuDiabetes has: nearly 15,000 registered members, almost 10,000 discussion topics and 9,000 blog entries; more than 31,000 photos, 1,100 videos and 400 groups.
On TuDiabetes, members can track, share and compare their diabetes data, using the TuAnalyze application, developed in collaboration with Children's Hospital Boston.
Acknowledging that people touched by diabetes may find it more convenient to connect with others outside our social networks, DHF also runs a Facebook page, multiple Twitter profiles (@diabeteshf, @tudiabetes, @estudiabetes, @WDDUSA and @d_advocates) and a YouTube channel.
